Building Information Modelling (BIM)

What is BIM?

By embracing innovation in all areas of our business, in all its many forms, we’re able to constantly improve what we can offer our clients, as well as consolidating our position as industry thought leaders.

BIM is a process used to design and understand a building in a virtual environment. It utilises information-rich 3D models through a collaborative working process in order to eliminate waste and improve the quality of information provided throughout the whole project lifecycle.

For us, BIM is about having defined processes for our projects and being able to provide accurate and structured data of our products.

At Wienerberger, we align with all best practices for BIM providing confidence to our customers that we follow the right processess and standards. For example, we partnered with the BRE who have been raising standards of the built environment since 1921, and we worked together to ensure that we are fully compliant with the ISO 19650 BIM prepared certification.

Why BIM?

1. Accuracy

Ability to provide accurate and structured data that links directly with 3D geometry of all our products.

2. Collaboration

Ensures a collaborative process that eliminates waste and improves the quality of information provided at the design and construction phases.

3. Centralised data

The use of a CDE (Common Data Environment) provides every project with a central repository of information, holding all data and assets relevant to that project.

Why Wienerberger?

ISO 19650-2:2018 Information Management Certification for Businesses Using BIM

Wienerberger is the only construction product manufacturer in the UK with a dedicated Architectural and Certified BIM team.

BRE UKAS accredited scheme certifies our Architectural team’s capability to input into the Information Management process for the delivery phase of appointments (e.g. projects) and produce outputs from that process. The certification demonstrates conformance to ISO 19650-2:2018, accelerating innovation and collaboration of clients and project teams.

BSI Kitemark for BIM Objects

Wienerberger UK has been awarded a Kitemark from BSI for its BIM objects (Certificate Number:  KM 715161). The BIM Objects Kitemark is the benchmark in best practice for the production of digital products used in BIM models. BSI carried out a complete audit of our BIM objects to ensure that they are a true likeness of our physical products.

Our BIM Objects

All of our objects can be found on this page. They are free to download and provide a market-leading level of information within them.

Each model has two types on information, graphical and non-graphical. The graphical element simply depicts the product when rendered and allows the designer to see the shape and size of the product. The nongraphical provides all of the certification, guarantee, life expectancy, technical specifications and material information for the product. It is this element that allows the creation of the specification. By simply utilising one of our models, any contractor wishing to switch a product needs to ensure it meets or exceeds every test result and certification, or it is liable for any future incidents the building may suffer.
