The ‘Right to Build’, part of the Self and Custom Build Housing Act 2015, requires local authorities to ensure there is adequate land provision for those who want to build their own home.
From 1 April 2016, local authorities in England are legally obliged to maintain a list of people and groups interested in building their own home. Local councils in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland may follow suit in due course.
Simply enter your details (town, city or postcode) nearest to where you’d like to build, and this useful website will help you find the relevant Right to Build register.
