We’re delighted to announce we are sponsoring the bricklaying competition at SkillBuild 2025, the UK’s biggest multi-trade construction event. This is our second year supporting the event, and we’re proud to help inspire and support the next generation of skilled bricklayers and construction professionals.

Chancellor Rachel Reeves recently announced a £600 million investment in construction skills training, emphasising the importance of programmes like SkillBuild. The funding includes £100 million to create 10 new technical excellence colleges and £165 million to help existing colleges expand their construction programmes.

These investments underline the critical role of skills development in driving Britain’s construction efforts, aligning closely with SkillBuild’s mission.

Delivered by CITB, SkillBuild has earned its reputation as the “Olympic Games of construction training” over the past 40 years. This prestigious competition provides apprentices and trainees with a unique platform to demonstrate their technical expertise, time management, and commitment while tackling industry-standard challenges under real-world conditions.

The regional qualifiers, held from April to July 2025, will test participants on key skills like precision, clean facework, and strict safety standards. The competition wraps up with a three-day National Final in a large arena, where friends, family, and the public can watch the impressive talent on display. The event ends with an awards ceremony to celebrate the winners.

This year, wienerberger is making a meaningful impact to the competition by donating over 60,000 bricks from our Sandown factory for use in the competitions and awarding £1,000 in prize money to the winners of the bricklaying competition. 

Richard Bullock, Head of Careers Products at CITB, emphasized the significance of sponsorships in making events like these possible. He said,  
"Support from our sponsors is critical for CITB to ensure we deliver the best experience for the competitors and that we replicate the materials and resources used in industry. Delivering the UK’s largest construction trainee competition is no small task, but the support from suppliers and manufacturers makes this a brilliant, collaborative event."
