Digitally designed house estate with people walking along the street

Case Study

Calder Mews

Calder Mews, a modern and contemporary residential enclave in Halifax, West Yorkshire, epitomises the harmonious interweaving of superior craftsmanship, refined aesthetics, and uncompromising comfort. Completing the final, stylish aesthetic of the first phase is the judicious specification of Wienerberger's Rivius Antique Roof Tiles.

Nestled alongside the idyllic Black Brook and mere steps from The Greetland Academy's Ofsted-acclaimed educational excellence, Calder Mews occupies an enviable locale. Based on the site of the former Holly Bank Works factory on Rochdale Road, the development's environment evokes a sense of tranquil sophistication, a sanctuary where elegant design seamlessly coalesces with effortless style and sumptuous indulgence. The development is being completed in two phases, with 23 semi and town houses in phase one, which is currently nearing completion and 14 executive detached dwellings in phase two, now in the foundation stage.

The architectural vernacular strikes a balance between contemporary flair and timeless elegance, with clean lines and understated opulence defining the visual narrative. Erris Homes, the visionary developer behind the exclusive plot, has curated an environment that entwines quality, style and comfort.

Completing the final, stylish aesthetic of the first phase is the judicious specification of wienerberger's Rivius Antique Roof Tiles. Chosen for their high-quality aesthetic and high-end kerb appeal, it was decided that this solution would help create a critical first impression among homebuyers and passers-by. Planner’s approval for the tiles was also straightforward and they were considered a sensible solution, favoured by both Erris Homes in previous projects and by Newlay Roofing, the contractor. Their inter-locking design eliminates the need for double lapping. Furthermore, due to their large clay format, they are faster to install, more economical to use and more cost-effective than traditional slate tiles.

Each new home at Calder Mews features a competitive specification as standard, including designer kitchens and bathrooms, integrated appliances and the latest energy-efficient building methods. It’s ideally situated for commuters, in close proximity to nearby towns and cities including Huddersfield, Bradford, Leeds and Manchester. Adding to the family appeal of the development are a host of nearby sports pitches, the renowned Piece Hall and the popular Eureka! Museum.

Constructing such an elegant development, however, has not been easy. The landscape is topographically challenging, with many of the homes being split level to accommodate the hilly nature of the plot. Set back from a main road into the centre of Greetland, Halifax, phase one of the project required utmost sensitivity to local traffic and nearby residents, including a care home which sits alongside the site. Having access to high quality building materials with the desired premium aesthetic was critical for bringing the vision of Erris Homes to life, without impacting local communities.

Scott Leather, Operations Director at Erris Homes, commented: “We’ve specified Wienerberger products before and are advocates of their premium quality, seamless installation and high-end aesthetics. We also know that the roofing contractor finds them good to lay, further confirming our choice.

“With the first phase development of Calder Homes and thanks to the partners and building materials used in the project, we’ve successfully managed to create a vibrant and stylish space that appeals to all types of homeowner; from families, to commuters and even those of retirement age. We had excellent support from Wienerberger throughout the project and look forward to continuing our relationship on phase two and future developments.”
