Wienerberger bricks, carefully chosen to match York's historic charm, were selected for this project to blend the old with the new. Studio Partington, a London-based architecture practice, chose Durham Dark Multi Stock, Oakington Buff and Kempley Antique, for their ability to reflect and harmonise with the background of York's historic landscape. Each brick type was strategically used to mirror the architectural tones and hues of the factory buildings and surrounding streets.
Adam Cornish, Director at Studio Partington, said: “Through careful brick selection, we aimed to weave the new residential landscape into York's rich historical tapestry, drawing inspiration from the iconic Terry's factory.
“Kempley Antique's pink-toned multi-finish matched the appearance of the pink used commonly throughout York and the listed factory buildings, and Oakington Buff pays homage to the adjacent white brick structures of the nearby Knavesmire area. Our collaboration with Wienerberger was instrumental in crafting a brick specification that not only aligned with our design aspirations but also met the standards of the York City Planning Department and Conservation Team, while fulfilling the quality, cost and availability needs of the client, David Wilson Homes.”
